Roadside collections with local grass-roots groups
Twice a year around 450 grass-roots groups throughout Switzerland collect 45 % of the used clothing. This enables the grass-roots groups to earn money to fund their social activities in the commune and indirectly relieves the commune’s budget.

Container systems
TEXAID has a container network that currently comprises approximately 3,000 containers. Managing this network (emptying the container and transporting the contents by the TEXAID teams) is entirely the responsibility of TEXAID. Our quality standards guarantee that the containers are maintained in good condition and that the sites are kept clean. We also provide a 24-hour service: should a container unexpectedly become full in between the routine collections, it will be emptied within 24 hours. The partners in the commune are informed of the collection results every year or more regularly if they request it.

Environmentally friendly recycling
of the collected textiles thanks to professional sorting:
Sorting is the most important part of professional recycling, i.e. putting recyclable materials back into textile production. TEXAID creates jobs and avoids exporting waste materials.

Coordinating roadside collections
The Coordination Office for Roadside Textile Collections in Switzerland was set up on the initiative of TEXAID and its members include the most important collection organizations in Switzerland, with a joint market share of more than 90%. TEXAID runs the Coordination Office and each year draws up a collection calendar that takes account of all important aspects. The local authorities benefit in many ways: They have one contact for applications and information, so that requests for additional information are no longer necessary when handling applications.

Collection statistics and information
TEXAID is transparent. It is the only organization in this sector to publish collection statistics and financial figures. Current annual statistics of collection results are sent out to communes that fill in the relevant form.

Membership of Swiss Recycling
Swiss Recycling Swiss Recycling carries on important educational work. The association is the interface for consumers, teachers, local authorities and the retail trade throughout Switzerland. One important mission is also educational work among children and teenagers. It does this by running information sessions about the environment, waste and recycling in schools in German-speaking and French-speaking regions of the country.
