TEXAID collects more than 21,000 tonnes of used clothes in Switzerland. More than 65 % of this total is processed in the two sorting facilities in Schattdorf and Zurich. As a result of this professional sorting, 55 % can be worn again (clothing) or reused (household textiles). 15 % are cut up into dusters and 20 % are processed into shoddy wool for insulation materials. Roughly 10 % are soiled textiles or foreign objects that have to be incinerated with other refuse.
