Sorting is the most important part of professional recycling, i.e. putting recyclable materials back into textile production. TEXAID is the only textile-collection company to operate professional sorting facilities and contributes to the fact that roughly 40 % of all textiles collected in Switzerland are recycled locally with the added value remaining in Switzerland.
Unsorted used clothing cannot be exploited as it is. Only by processing the used textiles in Switzerland can we be sure that no waste is sent abroad. TEXAID is the only large collection organization to ensure that exports of waste materials are kept to a minimum by sorting one third and separating the remaining collected material beforehand.
