In 1978, six renowned Swiss aid organizations founded TEXAID Textilverwertungs-AG along with a business partner and know-how provider. Their aim was to combine the traditional and until that time independent clothes collections into one professional value-added chain that was both ecologically and economically sound.
Today, TEXAID is one of Europe's largest organizations for the ecological collection, sorting and recycling of used textiles and shoes. At the parent company in Switzerland and at our locations in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria and Morocco, a workforce of over 1,000 generate funds running into the millions for the associated aid organizations and other non-profit organizations. In so doing they directly contribute to both financing and implementing charity and social services.
TEXAID is clearly committed to both ecological and social sustainability. Consequently, TEXAID Switzerland is the only used textile recycling company that can present a very good ecological balance sheet – issued by the Carbotech AG company. We are also the only textile collection organization with ISO-9001-certified quality management at all levels of the company. TEXAID guarantees ecologically high-quality and socially sustainable collection, sorting and recycling at the highest possible professional level. In 2015, TEXAID Textilverwertungs-AG in Switzerland was awarded the «CO2 Neutral» quality seal of Swiss Climate AG. This award is given exclusively to companies that operate a comprehensive and sustainable policy of climate protection.
