As well as collecting textiles via textile containers and in-shop boxes, TEXAID also organises street collections. This is a practical service for anyone who wants to dispose of their used clothing and household textiles right outside their front door. The necessary information and a collection bag are sent out by post well in advance of the collection date.
In most areas, TEXAID carries out these street collections in association with Swiss Post. People can use this service for a whole month (Monday to Friday) free of charge. Residents are asked to simply leave the collection bag out next to their mailbox in dry weather, or to ensure that it is well protected in bad weather. The mail carriers pick up the collection bag on their daily rounds. The synergies with the postal service mean that there are no empty runs, as the collection of old clothing is combined with mail deliveries.
Donation to charity
The respective cantonal Samaritans association receives a financial donation from each collection. The Samaritans put the funds towards their worthwhile charity work.
