IMPORTANT RESOURCES FOR THE ASSOCIATION’S ACTIVITY

In Switzerland, approximately 24,000 Samaritans are involved in around 1,000 local Samaritan associations. They help event organisers with first aid, pass on first aid knowledge to the population during courses and hold blood donation campaigns. The Samaritan Association of the Glarnerland was founded in 1976 and promotes cooperation between associations in the region.

TEXAID and the Samaritan Association of the Glarnerland
A number of TEXAID used clothes bins in the cantons of Glarus and St. Gallen raise money for the Samaritan associations in the Glarnerland. The associations also carry out a joint annual street collection on behalf of TEXAID. By selling used clothes, TEXAID generates funds which go to its six participating aid agencies, as well as to numerous regional organisations. These include the Samaritans of the Glarnerland, with 13 associations in the canton of Glarus and three in the canton of St. Gallen (Amden, Schänis and Weesen).

Training and further education
The 16 associations put the money raised towards the training of technical managers and the further education of members. This is very important for the Samaritans so that they can offer courses, e.g. first aid training or target group courses, in a professional manner and in line with the latest knowledge. In addition, TEXAID funds are used to purchase emergency equipment and training materials. The Samaritan youth organisation “Help” also plays a key role, which is why the association promotes and provides financial support for the group.
