Wind music project for primary school pupils in Schlieren

Stadtjugendmusik Schlieren is using innovative approaches to combat the drop in membership of the association. In 2016, Stadtjugendmusik Schlieren entered into a collaboration with Hofacker school in Schlieren with the “Klassen musizieren” (Classes making music) project. Together, they want to generate enthusiasm for wind music among the pupils. Financing of the project was also made possible with payments that TEXAID makes to Stadtjugendmusik Schlieren.

TEXAID and Stadtjugendmusik Schlieren
In the Schlieren area, there are several TEXAID old clothes containers which collect for the benefit of Stadtjugendmusik Schlieren, among others. TEXAID generates financial resources through the sale of old clothes which it pays out to numerous regional organisations and associations in addition to the six participating relief organisations. This also includes Stadtjugendmusik Schlieren. With the new “Schüler musizieren” (Pupils making music) project, the association is attempting to generate enthusiasm for wind music among children and young people. Music professionals, instruments, teaching material and good organisation are required for the implementation of such a project. Financial payments from TEXAID are also helping to finance this project.

Commitment to musical education
Stadtjugendmusik has existed since 1956. Owing to the constant decline in membership numbers in recent years, the music association has for several years been focusing on encouraging children and young people. The participating primary school pupils learn a wind instrument under the guidance of professionals. For 1-2 lessons per week, wind music classes are a regular feature of their daily routine. Support from Stadtjugendmusik Schlieren and TEXAID also makes it possible for children from low-income families to learn an instrument. Children from 10 different nations are participating in the project, meaning that there is an interesting cultural exchange.
