Sorting in Switzerland At the sorting facility in Schattdorf, computer-as- sisted and voice-operated systems are used for the sorting process. In addition, every item is in- dividually inspected and sorted by employees. Around 60 different quality criteria are used du- ring the sorting process and stored for shipment. Sorting in Germany TEXAID runs one of Europe’s largest second-hand clothing sorting facilities in Apolda, a city in the German state of Thuringia. Every day, 270 trained employees sort 350,000 articles of clothing by hand and divide these garments into 300 different categories. Sorting in Eastern Europe and Morocco Along with its facilities in Switzerland and Ger- many, TEXAID also has sorting facilities in Bulga- ria, Hungary and Morocco. The headquarters of TEXAID Bulgaria Ltd, a subsidiary of TEXAID since 2005, are located in the city of Kostinbrod. At this site, employees sort more than 6,000 tons of used textiles per year according to numerous quality criteria. TEXAID Kft. with headquarters in Bélapátfalva has been a subsidiary of TEXAID since 2008. Each year, more than 3,600 tons of used textiles are sorted in this Hungarian sorting and production facility. In Hungary, defective garments and household tex- tiles made from cotton or cotton blends are also cut into cleaning wipers. Since the acquisition of the ReSales Group in 2013, 51 percent of the sorting facility in the free trade zone of Tangier in Northern Morocco is owned by TEXAID. This plant offers an annual sorting capacity of 7,000 tons and is conveniently located close to all the important sales markets in Africa. Sorting Schattdorf 22
