Sustainability Report 2017

Subject Objectives for 2018 Measures for 2018 Resource efficiency Objective: achieving ecological leadership in the recycling of used textiles. This will involve making constant improvements to the way we collect, sort, and reuse textiles. In the long run, TEXAID hopes to achieve its goal of a closed-loop textile life cycle. • collaboration with colleges and universities on research and develop- ment projects • establishment of contact with potential partners along the textile value chain • review of chemical and mechanical recycling processes • evaluation of various upcycled products and their corresponding sales channels Environmental and climate-related aspects Objective: the continued development of the climate strategy and the active reduction of CO² emissions. In Switzerland, the objective for the year 2020 has already been reached. The objective of the other companies is to gradually create a climate management system. Objective: monitor and minimize the environ- mental impacts of core processes over the long term. In Switzerland, these impacts have already been identified. This is not yet the case at the other companies, which means minimization measures are still pending. Switzerland • ship collection bags in a climate-neutral manner • synchronize the work hours of the shipping and sorting departments • consider the environmental sustainability of products and services before purchasing them Other companies • prepare for the implementation of a climate management system in 2018 (fiscal year 2017) in Germany, and in 2021 in the other countries (fiscal year 2020) Switzerland • raise employee awareness via training courses on energy-related topics • improve waste management, waste separation, and recycling rates Other companies • identify the environmental impacts of all processes Energy efficiency Objective: reduce energy consumption over the long term. In Germany, a concrete savings target of 1.5 % has been defined for the next five years. Germany • train employees on topics related to energy • consider the energy efficiency of energy-consuming products before purchasing them • comply with all laws, regulations, and requirements with regard to energy efficient management, as well as the energy policy of the com- pany • energy consumption and efficiency should be continually measured, verified by way of surveys and audits, and optimized in accordance with new findings • make the savings target for Germany a reality • introduce energy consultants to the Apolda site (transition to LED) Switzerland • Measures are planned and implemented within the framework of the climate management system. Other companies • Energy efficiency systems should be in place by 2020. Charitable donations Objective: provide participating relief agencies and other non-profit partner organizations with financial resources that are proportionate to the company’s profits.
