In 1978, six reputed Swiss aid organisations founded TEXAID Textilverwertungs-AG along with an entrepreneur and know-how provider. Their aim was to combine traditional clothes collections which had previously been carried out independently into one professional value-added chain that was both ecologically and economically sound.
Today, TEXAID is one of the largest organisations in Europe carrying out the ecological collection, sorting and recycling of used textiles and shoes. At the parent company in Switzerland and at our locations in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Morocco and the USA, a workforce of over 1,200 people generates funds running into the millions for the associated aid organisations and other non-profit organisations. In so doing they make a direct contribution towards financing and implementing charity and social projects.
TEXAID has a clear commitment to both ecological and social sustainability. Consequently, TEXAID Switzerland is the only used textile recycling company with a very good ecological balance sheet as issued by Carbotech AG, a company which specialises in environmental matters. TEXAID is also the only textile collection organisation with ISO-9001-certified quality management throughout all levels of the company. TEXAID guarantees ecologically high-quality and socially sustainable collection, sorting and recycling of the highest professional standard. In 2015, TEXAID Textilverwertungs-AG in Switzerland was awarded the Swiss Climate 'CO2 Neutral' quality seal. This award is only granted to companies that implement a comprehensive and sustainable climate protection policy.
